Christmas Animal
Stockings - Step by Step
The four designs included
feature fun shaped stockings that have felt appliqué on the top
to which you can add a design or lettering to to customize your
project. A top layer of felt is added before the last
color stop of the basic design to allow the stocking to be sewn
together right in the hoop! Remove from hoop, trim to
1/4", turn right sides out, add a cuff, and you've got a
fun and simple project completed!

|
|
Hoop a tear away stabilizer and place felt on top and
press in place. Run the fix basting stitch to secure felt to
stabilizer. Run the first color stop to show the placement of the
design.
|
|
Lay a contrasting color of felt over the paw pad
areas (or hoof or fin) outlined. Run the second color stop to
attach the appliqué layer of felt.
|
|
Remove the hoop from the embroidery unit and trim as
close as possible to the stitching in the appliqué. Run the third
color stop to finish the edges of the appliquéd areas. (Detail
lines will also be added to the fin in the fish design.)
|
|
Stitch any additional lettering or designs within the
stocking area if you desire. (Lettering is NOT included with the
designs.)
|
|
Lay another layer of stocking colored felt (wrong
side up) on top of the stitched design. Run the last color stop in
the basic stocking design to stitch the stocking's seam. (The seam
uses a sturdy triple stitch.)
|
|
Remove from hoop and trim to 1/4" from
seams. Clip corners (between toes). Turn right side
out. (I found a chop stick to be very helpful for turning my
stockings.)
|
|
This is what the finished stocking design looks like
before you add a cuff to it. It was all done in the hoop!!
|
|
Cut a rectangle of fabric for your cuff.
(Double the top of the stocking width and add 1" for a half inch
seam allowance.) Sew the short sides right sides together.
Fold the tube in half meeting wrong sides together. Place the cuff
over the stocking so that all the raw edges meet at the top.
Stitch together at your sewing machine or serger.
